1.0 What is the “right” diet?

The proper diet should supply the body with adequate nutrients while not burdening the body with the task of digestion. So a simple formula would look like this:

NUTRITION + DIGESTIBILITY = GOOD DIET

A common mistake that most people make is focusing too much on nutrition while ignoring the ability to digest. The reason is partly historical. Before the industrial revolution and the explosion of agricultural productivity, people had always struggled to obtain enough food to eat. Hence medical teaching had always emphasized on diseases of malnutrition, especially protein deficiency. Nitrogen balance is under close-watch for in-patient setting to avoid wasting. However, now we face a very different dietary landscape and need to adjust our outlook. I recommend shifting our attention to digestibility rather than nutrition.
